Father’s Day

was always the day my dad received more new socks and ties! Sometimes he'd even get a special "coupon book" for things like cookies, back rubs, etc. Us kids may have made him breakfast in bed or a creative dinner a time or two. I'm pretty sure my dad did way more things for me, than I ever did for him. Every time I had a problem or concern, my dad was who I called. He always had great advice to help me re-evaluate the situation and realize there is always a solution (even if I couldn't see it right away). I miss receiving counsel from him now.

We're going down memory lane for a minute...

-My 15th birthday was awesome. For some reason the whole family was out of town except my dad. After he got off work he came home and announced that I could drive around town with him. It was the best daddy daughter date ever. We went to Leo's for a hamburger, fries, and shake afterwards. -Meeting up in Provo when I bought my new Subaru. I was so excited to drive dad around town then, too.

-The many trips to Ogden! Dad and Mom have always been so great at visiting us kids.

-Dad reading stories to us on Sunday nights. He was a great story reader, and I loved to hear him sing. I sure enjoyed the last time we all sang around the piano together. Singing was something my dad loved to do. He enjoyed the ward choir.

-Fourwheeling at the dunes with him. We had some fun rides together.

-Camping up Oak City Canyon. I loved being around the campfire and smelling the dutch oven cooking.

-Mostly, I remember my dad being very faithful at reading his scriptures. Every morning I'd wake up and dad would be sitting at the table doing personal scripture study. I've never been as diligent as he was. My dad had a strong testimony of the importance of the gospel. He understood the purpose of our life here, loved everyone, and served where he could. I'm very grateful for a wonderful father to instill great principles and truths into my life. I look forward to the day when I will see him again.

Mmmm...

i have become obsessed with this blog. i found it through my sister-in-law's website somehow. tonight i was flipping through some of the recipes and found this:

microwave carmel popcorn

IMG_5110

"it has perfect flavor, great texture, and the proportions are just right. this is definitely a must for movie nights, and super easy to make!"

1 c. brown sugar

1 stick butter

1/4 c. corn syrup

1/2 t. salt

1/2 t. baking soda

3 quarts plain popped corn

grocery store sized paper bag

put popped corn in paper bag. in a 2 quart dish, combine all ingredients but baking soda and popped corn. place dish in microwave then bring to a boil then cook for 2 minutes. remove from microwave and stir in baking soda. pour syrup over popped corn in the grocery bag. close the bag well and shake vigorously. put bag in microwave and cook for 1 1/2 minutes. pour cooked caramel corn onto lined cookie sheet and allow to cool.

(this is for fairly gooey caramel, if you want a crispier texture, cook the caramel longer before you add the soda and pour it onto the popped corn.)

Max's birthday...

It was so fun to spend the day at your house, Max.  Thanks for turning three!  I loved playing airplane, reading Curious George, kicking the soccer ball, having a pillow fight, eating popsicles, and mostly tickling you.  I love to hear you laugh!

For Derik's birthday, Jenna wanted to surprise him with all of us there to celebrate!  It was such a fun night watching the game, eating a hotdog, singing the ballgame song, and hanging with D.  What could be better?!?

Just another week….

Or so I tried to make it that way!   I started my pediatric rotation three weeks ago.  Since it is in Scottsdale I do have a half hour commute, and I am not a fan of traffic.  However, I am going to learn lots at the office I am at.  Dr. Vo is a Vietnamese man who has a degree in pediatrics and internal medicine.  There is a lot of diversity at this clinic which is great.  I never thought I'd really prescribe medication for malaria or typhoid fever, but I have.   I have also found that I am somewhat afraid of the little kiddo's, or more so of their parents.  Every time there is a big kid or an adult chart, I am ready to fight for it.  I've decided that it is because I am more comfortable with adult health issues.  I'm sure by the end of my rotation I will understand how to talk with small children and address parental concerns.  Hopefully, eh?

Memorial weekend came and went, but it was a blast.  My best friend, Amanda, came down from Wyoming and we partied it up with a few friends from here.  We went to dinner, played at the pool, hung out at the house... all in all, it was a much needed girlfriend time.  Thanks for the fun!

And don't worry, I dragged Rachel along since Zac was working that night.  I think she had a good time!

Last week also turned out to be quite fantastic!  Friday night Elder Richard G Scott of the Twelve Apostles came and spoke to the YSA at ASU institute.  I participated in the event and was richly rewarded.  Elder Scott was very informal and humorous, although, we did address some serious subjects.  We talked about the importance of living worthy in order to receive inspiration through the Holy Ghost.  This time of our lives is crucial to what our future will hold, so it is critical to be in tune with the Spirit.  He also touched on marriage, importance of modesty and staying away from living on the fence, and how we should recognize what we feel when touched by the Spirit (more that what we hear).  It was a great fireside!

Saturday I spent at JP and Mary Ann's.  I'm sure they weren't expecting me to stay the whole day, but it turned out that way.  It was nice to catch up since it was a month ago that we last visited.  Max and Ian are growing up quickly.  It is fun to play chase, read books, and go for walks with them.  I mostly go out to see Max and Ian!  It was fun to hear them tell about their trip to UT and grandma's house.  I then stayed for their BBQ with some of their friends.  Always delicious!  Thanks for the unintentional invitation!
