fall is here…finally

Fall is always a welcomed time of year.  Why is that?  Let me explain with a few reasons: 1) the temperature is dropping, 2) jackets are a fashionable accessory, 3) cinnamon & cider, 4) pumpkin carving, and most importantly, 5) the holidays are coming!

This week for FHE we combined with another YSA ward.  We carved pumpkins and frosted sugar cookies.  I like slicing into the pumpkin and scraping the stringy insides out.  I don't love how it makes my hands itch and crack, though.

This is my lovely pumpkin.  I went for simple.

Other eventful news:  FDA approved H1N1 vaccination.  Our office was supplied this week.  Once I had clearance I received my H1N1 vaccination today.  Not going it lie, it's a painful shot.  It burns during the injection and my shoulder has been stiff all day.  I am sure I have been exposed to the virus since half my patients are complaining of flu-like symptoms.  Guess I'm covered twice.  I am glad to have received it.

The only downfall with the holidays approaching is that more and more treats are becoming available.  We already have numerous reps bringing in all sorts of goodies and Halloween isn't even over.  I can feel the lbs applying to my upper thighs.  Does that mean I need to start to exercise?  Eck!  This is what I enjoyed today... such a love/hate relationship.

The latest excitement at our home is "So you think you can dance."  I love all the dancing, but not all the critiquing judges.  It is going to be quite the season.  There is serious talent!

the rest of my life

Day one of the rest of my life

or so that’s what I’ve always been taught!

You go to kindergarten with a smile knowing you will meet your new best friend.  You survive performing in the fourth grade graduation.   You suffer through Chapter One and hours practicing reading during middle school.  You enjoy creating science fair projects.  You almost perished at the thought of slicing open a cow’s eye for biology lab.   You beam when you are awarded the “Most Likely to become Physician” scholarship.  You are dreaming of  ‘greener grass on the other side of the fence’ after finishing school.  You are thoroughly terrified as college graduation approaches.  You are ecstatic and shout for joy after receiving an acceptance into graduate school.  You dread the numerous days of overwhelming material, bookwork, and lectures.   You wonder how the years flew by because Day One of what you always dreamed about is here!

After many days of wondering what my future entailed, I got the blessed phone call saying everything was in order for me to start work.  And start I did.  That very afternoon my schedule was booked.  My first patient remembered me from rotations which indirectly put me at ease.  I survived, and I even liked it.  I thought, “Now this is what the rest of my life is going to be like.”

Day two of the rest of my life

was not quite like I expected.  I thought I’d have more formal training on the office flow, computer system, etc.  Nope.  My schedule filled right up.  And I still liked it.

Day three of the rest of my life

was the day I really doubted myself.  I felt very incompetent and wanted to cry by midday.  I don’t think I had ever been so happy to see a patient with an earache.  Something I knew.  And then I was okay.

Day four of the rest of my life

was the day I actually saw more than “same day appointment” patients.   In my short time as a healthcare provider, I have already saved two lives, plus helped a few more along the way.  I may have forgotten a few minor paperwork details, but overall, it was a very good day.

I think I will go back tomorrow to see what "day five of the rest of my life” has in store for me.

staying busy with the ladies

Friday night I went to the Ingrid Michaelson concert with my roommates and some friends at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale.  It was a blast.

Here's a link to Andria's video's.  I couldn't figure out how to download it... ENJOY!

After the concert we walked 'around the corner' (aka 8 blocks or something) to the Gelato Spot.  Delicious!

General Conference was outstanding!  Always great to get some added reassurance and spiritual uplifting.  You can listen to it HERE!

Saturday evening was a fun filled time with Becca Wilson's bridal shower.  We played some very interesting games!!  And the food was divine.

Later that night Kristen, Jenna, Katie, and I went and saw 'Whip It.'  Entertaining!

Sunday night we had a 'few' friends over for a Pizookie Party.

Remembering my parents Anniversary!

young-love1

I am grateful for eternal families!

life with nothing to do

gets really boring, very quickly.  I'm back from my roadtrips.  And you'd think since I have nothing to do, I'd update my blog or something.  Nope.  I spend countless hours checking my FB and my friends latest status updates.  I sleep in.  I read WAY TOO much.  I spend money that I don't have.  I procrastinate all my 'to do's.'  I analyze everything about 100 times over.  I watch some pretty great movies.  And some not so great movies.  I drown my neighbors out with my piano playing.  I blog stalk.  I contemplate doing some cleaning.  But then I don't.  I sign my life away with paperwork daily. I make treats.  Then indulge myself in them.  Mmmm.

A few things I am doing, besides doing nothing, are playing tennis (at least trying), learning how to hit golf bowls (awkward), visit old friends, taking an underwater basket weaving class, tried unsuccessfully to wakeboard, applied for my passport (I know it's way overdue), unofficially accepted a job offer (hence; signing my life away, however, my start date keeps being postponed...frustrating), attended a friends wedding, and got pulled over for speeding* to another friends baby shower (which I did not make).

Life is always full of surprises!  Sometimes good, sometimes not so good.  I don't always understand.  But continue with faith, trust, and hope.  Such is the meaning of life.

*Don't worry:  I did not get a speeding ticket for the first time.  Just a few warnings.
