B.B. King Live

My office was invited to celebrate one of the cardiology christmas parties with them by going to the B.B. King concert at Celebrity Theatre.  Amazing.

Me & Jenna

I invited my friend Jenna to come along.  We got to enter with a secret password.   We visited with some staff and spouses prior to the concert while having appetizers below the theatre.

B.B. King Live

Celebrity Theatre is set up in a circular fashion where the stage turns.  That way everyone gets a front view and the seats are all decent.  Very cool.  I was yelled at for taking this picture... so embarrassing.  I thought I had turned my flash off, but apparently I didn't.  Oops.

B.B. King is now 84 and quite the entertainer with life stories and songs.  He would have performed all night if the venue would have let him stage.  But, the crowd was getting a little rowdy by the end, so Jenna and I left before the last song finished.  I could not believe how disrespectful people were getting.  They had apparently had too much to drink and were getting a bit sensitive about everything.  Glad we missed the fight.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Critical acclaim and widespread popularity have cemented his reputation as possibly the most respected, successful, and most recognized bluesman, not just in the United States, but in the world.[1] Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at #3 on its list of the "100 greatest guitarists of all time."[2] According to Edward M. Komara, King "introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending and shimmering vibrato that would influence virtually every electric blues guitarist that followed."[3]

A once in a life-time experience.  So glad I was able to share in such a great concert!!

Mom’s Visit

My Mom came to visit a couple weeks ago.  It was nice to have an excuse to go out and visit JP, Mary Ann, and kiddos. We had fun celebrating my dad's birthday, playing with Max and Ian, taking the boys trick or treating, snuggling with Ava, and visiting.

be grateful

Autumn is upon us.  The temperature dropped to the sixties this weekend and it's dark before I leave work.   Chilly weather makes me happy because hot chocolate and sweaters are a delight. And it means the holidays are just around the corner.  I love having the holiday spirit!

Fondue parties have been the latest theme.  I love chocolate.  I love fruit.  I especially love them together.  Cinnamon bears dipped in dark chocolate are also divine.  Best of all is the company.  I love good conversation.  And laughing with my roommates.

I was recently called to be the Relief Society Music Coordinator.  I am not completely sure what my calling entails, but I am going to love learning in this calling.  I love the Relief Society and I love music.   It's a great combo for me.

I still love my job.  I am grateful to work in such a good environment.  And I really enjoy helping people.  Through all my studies, it never really dawned on me what my main role as a provider would be - a teacher.  I educate my patients on numerous topics.  And I will always be a student.  I am taught daily by my patients and co-workers.  I hope I continue to love my career.

November is about remembrance and being thankful. One year ago I had the opportunity to go with my mother to receive my own endowments at the Mesa Temple.  What an amazing day. I have had many special moments since that day. The gospel of Jesus Christ is true and I am grateful for my testimony. I know families are eternal.

Each day is a gift from God.  Make the most of it.  You never know if you will have another one.

Life is precious.

Annetta Scoville Journal Entry 9 Nov 1945

Rodger’s First Day at Home

On Nov2/45 I thought I really was going to the hospital. I started really cleaning the house, had scrubbed walls & floors & waxed & polished bedrooms, stairs & kitchen-living rooms. I was just finished & felt I should rush to the hospital but knew I had to have a bath. By the time I was undressed I knew I couldn’t walk to the hospital (more than a mile away) so Ells got Dunc Dudley to come give us a ride. When I got into the hospital it seemed my pains were a little less severe & so the matron started registering someone’s baby; before she had asked 2 questions I was having another severe pain & she stopped & rushed me to the case room. She phoned Dr. Magid and tried frantically to get me ready.

When Dr. Magid arrived he started questioning why he hadn’t been phoned sooner (he had taken 20 mins to get there) & she assured him I had just come in.  Needless to say I was very relieved & pleased when Rodger arrived.  When Ells came back to see me that evening I asked if he would pain out floor around the linoleum and also pain the cupboards, high chair and crib. Well 2 days later when he came to see me he told me he had bough some pain on special & would try to do ‘some’ painting before I got home. I asked what color & he ignored the question. Several times I mentioned I surely would like to have the furniture WHITE  but he just changed the subject. The night before we were to come home I noticed some brown pain on Ells hands & drew his attention to it, he said “yes I got it on special – they didn’t have many colors.” I was disappointed but tried not to show it.  The following day when we walked in the house was just beautiful – everything painted white & so well done.  The brown was the color around the linoleum & it was just perfect.  Ells was on afternoon shift so left for work.  I went upstairs to arrange things for Rodger & then went downstairs to find Earl had found the brown paint & painted everything – the cupboards, high chair, stove, table & chairs & linoleum.  Mother walked in just when I started to cry.  She surveyed the seen.  We tried in vain to remove it & then she said “I’ll take Earl home with me. Ells will kill him.” She did & I continued to & feel sorry for myself. Anyone who has come home with a new baby knows the bewildered feeling one gets when all the energy you seem to have in the hospital just drains out of your with the first diaper change.  Well this was compounded 100 times. I was truly frustrated!!! When Ells came home after midnite he walked in & ran 2 steps a time up to the bedroom only to find the culprit wasn’t in his bed. I was really glad mother had taken him home . He was so angry I’m not sure what would have happened if he could have found Earl that nite.

Celebrating Dad’s 64th

Grandpa Rodger Scoville

On November 2, 1945 my dad, Rodger L. Scoville, was born.  Even though he is not here to celebrate with us, it is a day of great celebration.

My dad was full of love for others.  He showed it in numerous ways: serving faithfully in his church callings, spending vacation time driving to see family, countless hours working with the fire department, and dedication to his patients.  Some favorite memories of my dad are: Sunday naps (I knew if I waited long enough, dad would eventually fall asleep and I could 'get away.'), Daddy-Daughter dates, road trips, Thanksgiving in Sedona, camping up Oak City Canyon (best Dutch oven cookin'), and quading at the dunes.

Family, Service, and Education sums up the life of my dad.  I'm grateful that my dad instilled those important principles into my heart and mind.  I hope I can carry it on.

halloween weekend 2009

Once upon a time, there was a pumpkin named Peter.  Peter enjoyed spending time at home and lounging on the balcony.  On this particular Halloween night, Peter shared this scenic view with a couple of friends, Sarah and Mary.  This was the start of a fun adventurous weekend.

Trick or Treat 2009

Trick or Treat 2009

Ava Ghost was spooky and quiet as usual.  She was content hovering close to the people she loves.

Fireman Ian saved the neighborhood from a catastrophic house fire.  Good thing he had his box of candy to share with those in need.

Trick or Treat 2009

Doggie Max was saved by the firemen.  He happened to be found howling from the top floor with flames bursting around him.

Trick or Treat 2009

Once the neighborhood all settled down, we were able to see what kind of Halloween Treats we had collected.

Trick or Treat 2009

Then we celebrated the start of another year of Mary Ann's life.

Trick or Treat 2009

Ian found the fork to be a hassle and started shoveling in the cake with his hands.

Trick or Treat 2009

Max studiously structured a block building.  Minor blunders occurred while others tried to help, but in the end it was a masterpiece.

Trick or Treat 2009

Farm girl Heather had an encounter with the neighbors irrigation lines.  She decided she could sell her soul to Devil Sarah in order to make amends with the earlier "incident."  Lucky for her Wonder Woman Jen came along and saved Farm girl Heather from a fatal mistake, and was out of the grasps of Devil Sarah one more time.

Time for Fireman Ian, Doggie Max, Ava Ghost, Farm girl Heather, Wonder Woman Jen, and Devil Sarah to close there eyes... another day is yet to come!

And did it come?  Yes, too quickly.  Sunlight streamed in through my blinds disrupting my morning rest.  The day progressed, and church time came.  To my surprise, I had a twin.  Her name is Andria.  She is average height, black hair, pretty smile, hilarious personality, and very intelligent.  Obviously, we are not identical twins, she's my roommate.  But we sure looked like it today in our green blouses, black knee length skirts, black heels, and dark curly hair.  We giggled and quickly changed.

After church, Tia Sarah came to spend some quality time with family, but she came a little late.  Instead of helping out, she wired Ian and Max right up.  Who wants to go to bed when Tia Sarah is around?? (I like talking third person)

"Nona" aka Grandma Mary and Tia Sarah

Precious Ava decided it was time to delight us with her presence.

Never knew she had such big eyes because she's usually sleeping when I'm around.

Now it's great spending time with my Daddy.  "Hello, Daddy."

Stories are so entertaining.

fall is here…finally

Fall is always a welcomed time of year.  Why is that?  Let me explain with a few reasons: 1) the temperature is dropping, 2) jackets are a fashionable accessory, 3) cinnamon & cider, 4) pumpkin carving, and most importantly, 5) the holidays are coming!

This week for FHE we combined with another YSA ward.  We carved pumpkins and frosted sugar cookies.  I like slicing into the pumpkin and scraping the stringy insides out.  I don't love how it makes my hands itch and crack, though.

This is my lovely pumpkin.  I went for simple.

Other eventful news:  FDA approved H1N1 vaccination.  Our office was supplied this week.  Once I had clearance I received my H1N1 vaccination today.  Not going it lie, it's a painful shot.  It burns during the injection and my shoulder has been stiff all day.  I am sure I have been exposed to the virus since half my patients are complaining of flu-like symptoms.  Guess I'm covered twice.  I am glad to have received it.

The only downfall with the holidays approaching is that more and more treats are becoming available.  We already have numerous reps bringing in all sorts of goodies and Halloween isn't even over.  I can feel the lbs applying to my upper thighs.  Does that mean I need to start to exercise?  Eck!  This is what I enjoyed today... such a love/hate relationship.

The latest excitement at our home is "So you think you can dance."  I love all the dancing, but not all the critiquing judges.  It is going to be quite the season.  There is serious talent!

the rest of my life

Day one of the rest of my life

or so that’s what I’ve always been taught!

You go to kindergarten with a smile knowing you will meet your new best friend.  You survive performing in the fourth grade graduation.   You suffer through Chapter One and hours practicing reading during middle school.  You enjoy creating science fair projects.  You almost perished at the thought of slicing open a cow’s eye for biology lab.   You beam when you are awarded the “Most Likely to become Physician” scholarship.  You are dreaming of  ‘greener grass on the other side of the fence’ after finishing school.  You are thoroughly terrified as college graduation approaches.  You are ecstatic and shout for joy after receiving an acceptance into graduate school.  You dread the numerous days of overwhelming material, bookwork, and lectures.   You wonder how the years flew by because Day One of what you always dreamed about is here!

After many days of wondering what my future entailed, I got the blessed phone call saying everything was in order for me to start work.  And start I did.  That very afternoon my schedule was booked.  My first patient remembered me from rotations which indirectly put me at ease.  I survived, and I even liked it.  I thought, “Now this is what the rest of my life is going to be like.”

Day two of the rest of my life

was not quite like I expected.  I thought I’d have more formal training on the office flow, computer system, etc.  Nope.  My schedule filled right up.  And I still liked it.

Day three of the rest of my life

was the day I really doubted myself.  I felt very incompetent and wanted to cry by midday.  I don’t think I had ever been so happy to see a patient with an earache.  Something I knew.  And then I was okay.

Day four of the rest of my life

was the day I actually saw more than “same day appointment” patients.   In my short time as a healthcare provider, I have already saved two lives, plus helped a few more along the way.  I may have forgotten a few minor paperwork details, but overall, it was a very good day.

I think I will go back tomorrow to see what "day five of the rest of my life” has in store for me.

staying busy with the ladies

Friday night I went to the Ingrid Michaelson concert with my roommates and some friends at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale.  It was a blast.

After the concert we walked 'around the corner' (aka 8 blocks or something) to the Gelato Spot.  Delicious!

General Conference was outstanding!  Always great to get some added reassurance and spiritual uplifting.  You can listen to it HERE!

Saturday evening was a fun filled time with Becca Wilson's bridal shower.  We played some very interesting games!!  And the food was divine.

Later that night Kristen, Jenna, Katie, and I went and saw 'Whip It.'  Entertaining!
