tattoo repair

About a year ago I decided to get my small moon tattoo removed from my right shoulder. Well, the process didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. I apparently had an allergic reaction to the topical ointment which caused hypertrophic (thick) scarring to occur. It was extremely itchy and painful for months after the process. I tried every type of cream to reduce the itch and pain. Mild relief. I had thought about getting steroid injections, but the tattoo ink would still be present. So ugly! Over the summer my brother offered to do an elliptical excision. He numbed the area up, cut around the tattoo and scar, then gathered the under and outer layers together.

Here is the process of recovery:

Unfortunately, my body likes to react with everything, including the sutures. Since the shoulder is such a high area of tension the scar tissue as gradually grown. However, this scar looks a 100 times better than the hypertrophic scar. Over the next year the redness will fade.
