Dad and I in Sedona, AZ 2006 Thanksgiving!

I thought I'd share a few of my family memories.  I'm so grateful that families can be together forever!  I love my family.

Another quarter of school is winding down.  Only three more finals and one more full day of studying left!  I'm getting so excited to be done, and enjoy some time with my family.  Rachel and I are driving up Wed afternoon and will be there for about 9 days.  Hopefully the whole family will be able to come visit, but understand if we don't all make it.

I love having Gidget around because it's so nice to take her for walks.  It's great for me to get some fresh air and exercise, even just a short one.  She's very good at understanding my tone and what to do while we are one the walk.  It's so fun.

The last week has been SUPER stressful with finals coming and tweaking my neck, on top of everything else, and then today my check engine light went off.  When it rains, it pours!  At least everything will eventually subside, hopefully before my classes begin again.

I did have a nice weekend.  I went on a super fun date Friday night with Steve...dinner and then the Dueling Piano Bar, with Tasha and Blake. I loved singing along with all the songs I knew & the pianist was AMAZING!  Saturday my friend Heidi's boyfriend, Patrick, was baptized.  That was a very special day with them.  I'm glad I was able to go feel of the Spirit and strengthen my testimony of missionary work.  Between all that was studying.  Then yesterday was stake conference and our boundaries are being revamped.  Basically, they are dissolving many of the university wards over the coming months and transferring our records to the stake wards.  Since I'm not an ASU student and don't live in Tempe, I will be going to a new ward at the beginning of August.  A new adventure.  Last evening Rachel & I went out at JP and MA's house.  Amanda and the Dukie's came over and we BBQ'd.  It was so fun to see everyone.  I have missed the Scoville's but glad they had a nice trip to UT and CA.  Max and Ian are as adorable as ever.  I'm getting SO EXCITED to go home!

Reasons

img_0862.JPG

Reasons why I love having Rachel here...

1. She’s super fun

2. Listens to me vent at the end of the day

3. Distracts me from unimportant mumbo-jumbo

4. Comforts me when I’ve had a hard day

5. Keeps things real – helps me see the right perspective

6. Has great stories

7. Very adventurous and social (She’s gone out on more dates than me…and she says she’s shy…ha!)

8. Loves me even when I’m a stress-case and get easily agitated

9. Takes pictures and has an uploader…yeah!

10. She's a great friend

Reasons why I love dating...

1. Great conversation – You know, the one that you never want to stop!

2. Attraction – Butterflies – Chemistry

3. Hope

4. Free dinner – I love eating out, but living on student loans doesn’t permit it very often

5. A night away from Bill (my computer)

Reasons why I dislike dating...

1. Never knowing if you are expressing your feelings correctly

“Am I being too forward? Forward enough? Is he interested? Are we just friends? Am I interested?”

2. The Game

3. Awkward conversations that go even more sour?!?

4. Playing “Twenty Questions!” – I hate first dates and the “Getting to know you” crap – I just want it to be past that stage

img_0864.JPG

Reasons why I love school...

1. Learning - most of my classes are intriguing and can keep my attention – and when that happens I learn. I love learning especially when it’s something I am interested in. And I am fascinated at how the body works and then how it compensates when it isn’t working. The human body is amazing.

2. Great friends – I wouldn’t last long without my classmates – I love the great friendships, the class drama, the parties and knowing that all 70 of us are going through the same rollercoaster ride.

3. Acing my classes

4. Openness - friends that are willing to explain concepts time and again

Reasons why I dislike school...

1. Days that are SO hard that I want to drop out – I don’t like feeling like a failure

2. I hate spending hours on a subject and realizing that nothing has sunk in

3. Is this really what I want to do the rest of my life?

4. Exams - I'm not a good test taker

5. Self-doubt – Am I really gaining the knowledge I need to treat patients correctly?

Reasons why I love U7th ward...

1. Bishop Sandstrom – he’s so understanding and willing to help any of us

2. That everyone isn’t 18

3. I can go to learn, if I’m willing to learn

4. Building friendships

5. Great activities – ward devotionals, FHE games, wassail party, dinner groups, speed dating, pool party

6. And of course meeting new people (especially new guys)

Reasons why I love AZ…

1. Sunshine

2. Family – JP, MA, Max, Ian, and Rachel

3. Roommates – Natasha and Gidget

4. Friends – What would I do without great friends

5. School – great sense of perspective in my life

6. Home – over the years it’s starting to feel like home

Welcome 2008!

Another year has past! Here are a few thoughts & events from the past few weeks. I drove home with a couple friends to UT and Rachel picked me up at Cove Fort so I could spend a few days in Richfield with the Scoville's there. The parents came over for a day and we enjoyed our time there. Rachel and I spent the next few days with the parents watching movies, eating good food, playing scrabble and talking.

Christmas time had a different feel this year - only Rachel, the parents and I were in Delta for the be festivities. I studied for exams while mom and Rachel cooked for the special dinner on Christmas Eve. Mom really knows how to take care of us! I missed having all the hustle and bustle of the family around, but I will admit sleeping in on Christmas morning was nice. We enjoyed nice conversation, read the nativity story, and ate some breakfast before heading in to open our presents. Judy came over for the afternoon and we watched "Sense and Sensibility" while eating popcorn and candy hot tamales. It was a fun time at home. I spent a few days up north visiting friends. I went sledding with the Forsberg's in Mountain Green (it was SO fun), partied at Denise's Utah Jazz party, visited with the Muir's in Logan, dinner with Deanna & Brian and Derik, and met up with Brian & Tamara before heading back to Delta. I had a good time with friends and made some unforgettable memories.

I talked Rachel into visiting AZ...and she brought enough stuff to stay for good. I knew I had to show her a good time in order for her to love Mesa as much as me. New Year's Eve we went to dinner with my friend Kari and roommate Natasha. Then we met up with other friends at the Polar Ice event. I will say that it wasn't the most exciting night of my life. But I've decided that New Year's is just a let down. There is so much hype and expectations for the night, and then it's just another night out. We did have fun and I think Rachel enjoyed herself. She made some new friends just like that...and she says that she's shy.

We celebrated the new year by going to the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale! My cute friend Kari was able to get tickets, so I took Rachel, Derik, and Steve to the game. It was fun cheering for the Mountaineers and watching them squash the Sooners the game!!! I've decided that Kari, Trisha, and I are good luck. The past two years we've gone and our teams have won. Wahoo!

Classic Memories

sibling-picture.jpg

I was sure enjoying myself tonight as I glanced through some old photos.  It brought back some great memories from my "growing up" days.  This is a sibling photo in 1990 (I think) and we are a happy photogenic family.  I LOVED that blue dress from Grandma Scoville.  Jackie, Raylene, and I all received matching dresses.  I wanted to wear it everyday.  It had a big puffy skirt that flared out when I twirled around.  I felt like a princess when I wore that dress.  I wanted to save it forever, but it didn't last.

This must have been a rare occasion when Phil and I were getting along.  Our usual pasttime and only connection - torturing Rachel.

Phil, Sarah, and Rachel on Halloween with our very decorative pumpkins.  I have had some great Halloween's!  One of my favorites was carving pumpkins at the Forsberg's.  It was quite a task, but rewarding in the end!

Rachel and Sarah when we had the mirrior in our front room.  It looks like I made Rachel cry.  Something I was known to do frequently.

I loved dancing, singing, and playing in front of those mirrors.  Plus, they were great for a last minute dress check before you headed out the door.  I'm glad that brown carpet is gone, though.  I especially love my hairdo.

There are many great memories amidst the unforgettable ones, like peeing & 'hiding' on the side of the road or fighting constantly with Phil (and I always won) and punching holes in the wall when I didn't get my way or the porche present or playing library with my computer, files, stamps, and the family books, or the dreaded piano practice or playing dress up or mom's famous foot rubs (I still love those) or my precious daddy daughter dates or trading bedrooms or Monopoly Marathon's, just to name a few.  I am blessed with a great family that still loves me, including my stubborn temper, and I do cherish the memories I recollect of us.  We have had some wonderful times together, and they keeping getting better.  It is fun to watch my family grow and change over the years while my perspective on life also develops.  I love being an aunt and spending time with my family.

Angels & Airwaves is a  rock band fronted by former Blink-182 and Box Car Racer guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge.  The band includes guitarist David Kennedy, notably from Over My Dead Body, Hazen Street and Box Car Racer, former Offspring drummer Atom Willard and former 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter.  And my recent favorite band.  The band has released two albums thus far: We Don't Need to Whisper (2006)and I-Empire (2007).  Check out their site at www.angelsandairwaves.com and let me know what you think of there tunes.

The holiday has come and gone in  a breeze.  It was delightful to be home, see family and friends, and enjoy the brisk weather for only a short time.  I enjoyed playing games, visiting, reading, sleeping, and eating tasty foods.  I loved playing with all the kids (barbies, coloring, chase, tickles, and snuggles) especially when it was nap time or when the parents took over.  It was definitely fun watching "Enchanted" with Ella on my lap.  She was enveloped by the princess and the scary witch, but enjoyed her own popcorn and drink.  It was also fun to watch Shaelea, Abbie, and Kenzie create all sorts of inventions together while Oscar found a new hero in Alex.  I was impressed by Alex's guitar talent and commitment.  Of course, I enjoyed my day cooking and baking with mom before the family came.  It was fun learning how to make pie crust and chatting about my life's love, drama, and latest knowledge on everything.  And then spending time walking and chatting with dad, mom, and Marlene.  The few days I got outside running or walking were chilly.  I was glad I didn't overstuff myself on Thanksgiving day, like Phil, so that I could get up for a decent jog the next morning.  It was GREAT catching up on needed sleep, but it's hard adjusting to be constantly focused without my daily nap.

It seems as time is flying by.  Third quarter has begun with an usual schedule.  Every day seems to be a bit different, but somehow they have coordinated it so we get all classes intermixed through the next few months.  We have Pathophysiology, Pharmocology, Nutrition, H&P Lecture & Lab, Pulmonology, Dermatology, Genitourology, and Neurology.  An intense, but do-able class load, right?  I'm not expecting to have much of a life this quarter.  Neurology is for one full week before Christmas break with our final two days after we get back.  I'm not expecting much of a holiday.

My newest nephew, Ian William Scoville, is so precious.  He was born November 12, 2007, 6 lbs 12 oz, 21 inches.  It has been fun to spend a couple days with him.  JP and Mary Ann have said that Max is adjusting to the change after constantly asks "What's tat?" while pointing at Ian for the first few days.  I'm glad to live close by so that I can visit occasionally for hugs and play time.  I try to make it over before it's too late in the day - else Max isn't the most pleasant child.

Old roommate gathering at Jenny's latest casa.  A couple weeks ago we were all able to get together, probably for the one of the last times before Jenny gets married in January.  It was so fun chatting on the bed and fixing quesadilla's together.  I miss our talks and silly times.  Things are definitely changing: Jenny getting married, Daina in Tempe, me in Mesa, and Trisha and Kari will soon be transferring to ASU.  It's interested to think that a year ago I was wondering what I was doing in AZ.  Now it's all about school.  I'm glad that Dr. Rhey didn't fire me and made me stick out the hard times.  Look where it's got me!

A night out with the ladies after completely 2nd quarter finals. Yeah, we made it!  That was a rough week.  We had 7 exams in three days.  We had already finished the GI final and OSCEs the week before, but my body and mind weren't capable of functioning after that Wednesday.  I remember going to lunch with Derik and Kristen afterwards and discussing how we could talk/think about anything but we mostly talked about school.  I guess it's hard to think of anything else when school is all that's on our minds.  Dancing that night with the ladies was super fun.  It was a nice refresher from our classroom profiles!
